Paying deposits to wedding vendors

Paying deposits to wedding vendors will actually work in your favor, especially if you really want to hire them. This will allow the vendor to secure your date on their calendar. Back in 2012, we were hired to be a day of coordinator for a bride. While we were touching base with the vendors, the photographer said they never received a deposit or signed contract. I almost fell out of my chair, the good news is the date was still available. I called the client so she could handle this matter. I don’t know where and how this happened, but thank the Lord we caught this as their wedding was less than 30 days away.

Think of it this way, you walk into Express and fall in love with a pair of jeans, the longest most stores will hold merchandise is 24hours, the same rule applies to vendors. Unlike a retail store, they may say the deposit/retainer is non-refundable should you change your mind. Yes, they are correct as they are holding a date for you and possibly turning away other couples because the date is on hold for you.

Paying deposits to wedding vendors should only happen after you signed the contract. It is very important to agree on terms and conditions in the contract. If you find something in their contract that does not sit right with you, just send the vendor an email with your questions or concerns. Never sign a partially completed contract, make sure your contact information is correct and the list of services are accurate. Paying deposits to wedding vendors using a credit card, may come with applicable processing fees. Paying with check or money order will allow you to avoid paying the processing fees.

We did full planning for the wedding below. Luckily, Ebone and Marlon took our advice in regards to paying deposits to wedding vendors as their day was just how they imagined it to be.
