Interviewing Wedding Planners

So rumor has it that you will be tying the knot and you are about to start interviewing Wedding Planners. I sure hope this rumor is true, because interviewing wedding planners is a very important part in the planning process. Planning a wedding takes a lot of skills, time & love, so you want a winning team on your wedding day. Start with doing your homework on the planner, review their portfolio and their reviews.
Although it would be nice to bring some information to the table, it should not be a requirement. However, it would be great to know the following: your budget, the total amount of guests you’re planning to invite, the size of your bridal party, the time of day, and the geographic location.

Questions to ask when you’re interviewing wedding planners:

  1. How long have they been in business. This will spell out their level of experience as it is very important with wedding day surprises. Surprises?
  2. What services are included in their packages. You need to know exactly what you will be signing up for/
  3. Will they be comfortable to work within your budget
  4. Will they be able to work with the vendors you plan on hiring
  5. On wedding days, do they work alone of with a team. Never, hire a planner that does not work with a wedding day assistant. On a wedding day, vendors will be tugging on your wedding planner’s arm to ask him or her a lot of questions, or your planner’s phone will be ringing off the hook with vendors running late, basically they need another person or two to help them.

For the wedding below, we were hired to do full planning for the NY couple. This boho chic bride loves everything about the outdoors. She’s a science teacher and he’s a history teach who fell in love because they have chemistry {no pun intended, true story.} The morning of the wedding, it rained cat & dog, this was not a good thing, but I did not panic, because I knew it would all work out. We had very little time to set up, but we got it done because our team of three was ready to roll with the punches.
